I looove ice-cream, it is my favourite dessert. The creaminess of ice-cream makes me happy and I just love how versatile it can be. You can make just about any flavour from a simple ice-cream base.
Since I still haven’t bought an ice-cream machine, I still try my best to make ice-cream at home. When I was experimenting with different flavours, I thought about blood oranges. With my experimentation being successful, I made this no-churn blood orange ice-cream recipe.
Even though I really want to buy an ice-cream machine, I must say that I love the ease of making ice-cream without it. You only need few ingredients to make the base: vanilla extract, heavy whipping cream and condensed milk. I used the same base to make this recipe, of course I tweaked it a bit.
In this recipe, I used fresh blood orange juice and instead of the regular condensed milk in the no-churn method, I used honey. The reason why I wanted to use honey in this recipe was because I wanted to keep that tart taste but still have a hint of sweetness to it. Although honey is sweet, I found that it paired well, but be careful no to add too much honey.
TIPS & TRICKS:
- Blood orange: If they aren’t available to you then you can use oranges or even mandarines for this recipe. Be sure to use the fresh juice for the recipe.
- Honey: If you prefer to use condensed milk then you sure can. But be sure not to add to much honey because you will end up with a honey ice-cream. I’m talking from experience.
- Heavy whipping cream: I highly recommend using this kind of heavy cream because it will ensure you get the right texture at the end. It will also ease your whipping process.
- Make sure you freeze the mixture for at least 4 hours before diving in. And only use a cold heavy whipping cream because it will help you at the end.
I hope you enjoy the recipe.
