Learning to make rice is a must in any Caribbean household. Although many people own rice cookers nowadays, any person growing up on the islands has to know how to cook rice. Learning to cook it is important because of how much rice is included into our cooking.
This recipe is very simple to put together, you don’t need any fancy ingredients. All you need is rice (of course), turmeric, coconut milk, water, salt and coconut oil.
In order to have a flavorful bowl of rice, we recommend toasting the rice before boiling it. Toasting the rice simply means adding coconut oil to a warm pot then adding the rice and letting it cook for 1-2 minutes before adding the liquids. This will result in you having a flavorful, nutty and crunchy rice.
Coconut Milk Turmeric Rice
Ingredients
- 2 cups White rice
- 1 cup Water
- 1/2 cup Coconut milk
- 2 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tbsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Salt
Instructions
- Heat a pot over medium heat then warm the coconut oil then add the rice. Toast the rice for 2-3 minutes.
- Stir in the water, coconut milk, turmeric and salt.
- Cook for 15-20 minutes then enjoy.
