I think it was about two years ago when smoothies were a huge thing. Every single person on this planet was drinking smoothies and sharing it on the gram. Although smoothies are still a thing, the trend has surely died down. However, I still drink them on some days and today I enjoyed drinking this dairy free papaya smoothie. And of course, I am sharing the recipe with you guys.
Since I posted my No-Churn Papaya Frozen Yogurt recipe, I have been on this papaya craze. Papaya doesn’t have a season and you can almost find them all year long, and that is why I am loving them right now.
Usually smoothies are made with some dairy products, but I wanted to make this recipe without any dairy whether vegan or not. So instead of greek yogurt, almond milk or whatever, I used coconut water as my liquid.
Using coconut water not only enhanced the flavor and made it lighter, but it also added extra health benefits. Papayas are known for all their health benefits such as boosting your immune system, lowering cholesterol, great source of vitamin C and A. I love hearing about all the nutrients that are entering my body when I have papayas. But coconut water itself has benefits.
Just like papayas, coconut water is packed with vitamin A and C, as well as calcium. Sadly, I cannot have fresh coconut water because I am not currently living in the Caribbean. I remember growing up and seeing the boys in my neighborhood climbing the coconut tree to pick the fresh coconuts. There was nothing better than fresh coconut water and coconut jelly. But until I return home, I will just have to settle for the bottled version which is also good.
Another great thing about this recipe is that you don’t need to use any frozen fruits.
I hope you enjoy the recipe.
