Previously we said that soups are a huge part of Caribbean culture. They are served at parties, bbqs, cookouts and at home. One of the main components of a Caribbean soup is the dumplings. So we thought we should show you how to make dumplings for soup.

Caribbean dumplings are different from other dumplings. They are made differently throughout the Caribbean, so this recipe isn’t the most traditional one. This recipe originates from the island of St-Maarten/St-Martin. They use flour, cornmeal, butter, a little bit of sugar, salt and water.

Near the end of the cooking time, add the dumplings. Without dumplings your soup will be boring.

How To Make Dumplings for Soup

If you ever wondered how to make dumplings for soup then this recipe is for you. This recipe shows you how to make Caribbean boiled dumplings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Yellow cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup Warm water
  • 1 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp Butter at room temperature
  • 1/2 tsp Salt

Instructions

  • Add the flour, cornmeal, salt, sugar to a bowl and mix together.⁠⁠
  • Mix in the butter.⁠⁠
  • Gradually incorporate the water. Be careful not to add too much water.⁠⁠
  • Take the dough and roll it in the palms of your hands.⁠Roll the dough into a long oval shape or round balls.⁠⁠
  • Add to your soup.⁠
