Porridge is a big deal in the Caribbean. West Indians really believe that a big bowl of porridge is the best way to start the day. We think they are right. There are so many different porridges you can make and we love trying them all.
One of our current favorite porridge is this Jamaican style peanut porridge. This porridge is made with roasted peanuts and oats, it tastes amazing and it is super filling.

Jamaican Style Peanut Porridge
This Jamaican style peanut porridge recipe is a great way to start your day. It will leave you feeling full and licking your fingers.
Ingredients
- 3 cups Water
- 1 cup Roasted peanuts removed from the shell
- 1 cup Instant oats 1
- 1/2 cup Whole milk
- 1/4 cup Condensed milk
- 1 Cinnamon stick
- 2 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1 tsp Almond essence
- 1/2 tsp Fresh or ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp Ground allspice
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Add the roasted peanuts, instant oats and 1 cup of water to a blender.
- Blend until it smooth. It will be thick.
- Place a medium pot over medium heat, add 2 cups of water and the cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil.
- Stir in the blended peanuts and oats, then add the whole milk, almond essence, condensed milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, vanilla extract and salt. Stir everything.
- Let it cook for 15-20 minutes, making sure to stir constantly.
