Sometimes we can’t afford to travel to the islands for summer but your taste buds can travel there. Travel with this strawberry colada recipe.
I enjoy a good classic pina colada cocktail and I never dared to try another variation of it. But one day when I felt adventurous, I ordered a strawberry colada. And I knew I had to try a strawberry colada recipe at home. It was that good.
So since I finally got the right strawberry colada recipe, I decided it was only natural for me to share it with you guys on the blog. I got fancy and made a lava flow style strawberry colada recipe.
I knew you might think this cocktail is hard to recreate at home, but it isn’t. All you need is some glasses and a blender and you can make a lava flow cocktail at home. So if you really want to feel like you are on an island somewhere then you can make this lava flow cocktail.
When I use to see these cocktails, I would think that these bartenders are super skilled. I thought it took them forever to get this down, but I got it right on my first try and you can also.
I hope you enjoy the recipe.
Let’s get into it.
Ingredients:
(serves 4-5 cocktails)
For the coconut slushy:
- 1 cup Pineapple chunks
- 1/2 cup Pineapple juice
- 1 oz Coconut rum
- 1/4 cup Coconut cream
- 1 Ripe banana
- 1+1/2 cups Ice
For the strawberry slushy:
- 2 cups Frozen strawberries
- 1 oz White rum
- 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup Water
Directions:
- The coconut slushy: In a blender add the pineapple chunks, pineapple juice, coconut cream, coconut rum, ice and the banana. Blend all the ingredients together until smooth and well incorporated. Pour into a pitcher and rinse out the blender before proceeding.
- The strawberry slushy: Add the strawberries, rum, sugar and water. Blend the ingredients together and pour into a separate pitcher.
- The assembly: The technique is very simple. Hold the glass at an angle and pour the strawberry slushy into it. While still holding the glass at an angle pour the coconut slushy into the glass and fill to the top.
- I like to swirl a little more with my straw, this is optional. Top with a pineapple chunk. Enjoy!
