One thing I look forward to doing every summer is stuffing my face with ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt. Since I don’t own an ice cream machine, I decided to make a no-churn papaya frozen yogurt and of course I want to share it with you guys.

Papaya is one of those fruits that isn’t really on the top of the list of my faves. However, it is a fruit I grew up seeing and eating.

Papaya is grown throughout the Caribbean and the Americas. It is packed with a lot of health benefits and it isn’t overly sweet. Thanks to modern transportations, many people around the world are able to buy papayas in their local grocery store. I was able to get my papayas in the supermarket and I live in Europe, so you can get it too.

I really enjoy frozen yogurt, I love froyo spots that always change out their flavors on a regular basis. Of course, it is hard to achieve the soft serve like consistency making it at home and without an ice cream maker.

Obviously, the star of the show is papaya. I used very ripe papayas for this recipe. Usually, they aren’t as sweet as most fruits so you definitely need a sweetener for this recipe. I used honey in this recipe for a healthier option but you can also use sugar.

TIPS & TRICKS:
  • Honey: I know it isn’t everybody’s favorite sweetener, so you can swap it out for agave or maple syrup or even sugar. If you are using agave or maple syrup then you can use the same measurement for the honey. If you are using sugar then I recommend using 1/2 cup or 1 cup, adjust to your liking.
  • Papaya: I used a very large papaya, if you only have medium size ones then you can use 2-3 papayas. I really recommend using very ripe papayas. Not only will it cut easier but the flavor will be way better.
  • Freezing process: It may sound like a lot of work but this is one of those recipe you need to make a day in advance. I highly recommend freezing the first time for a minimum of 4 hours then breaking into cubes and processing again. The second processing is to break the ice crystals that were formed. The second freezing should be at least 2 hours.
  • Ice crystals: They will form because of the lack of fat in this recipe. If you want a smooth froyo then breaking the ice crystals is really important.
