“Bloody” Red Velvet Hot Chocolate Recipe

With halloween approaching I thought this bloody red velvet hot chocolate recipe would be perfect. Drinking blood is okay right? Joking.

Everyone looks forward to Halloween, it’s the only time adults get to play dress up as well as kids. It’s the perfect time for candy, pranks and trick-or-treat of course. To honour the Halloween festivities, I decided to share this “bloody” red velvet hot chocolate recipe.

I wanted to make a simple Halloween treat and I got the idea to make this hot chocolate beverage. It’s super easy and quick, if you didn’t plan on making any fancy treats but still want to make something simple, you can definitely make this one.

Hot chocolate is one of my favourite hot beverages. Ever since I moved to college, I tried cutting back on my intake but it’s hard at times. Now I can’t say that I am addicted but just know that I am currently writing this post while drinking a cup of hot chocolate. Don’t judge me.

This was so simple and quick to put together, you only need red food colouring, vanilla, milk of course and sugar which is completely optional. That is all you need.

In order to give that spooky feeling, I made this so called fake blood to go on top of it. To make the fake blood I used powdered sugar, water and food colouring. That simple.

Red Velvet Hot Chocolate

Servings 4 servings

Ingredients

Red velvet hot chocolate:

  • 4 cups Whole milk at room temperature
  • 2 tbsp Granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 8 oz White chocolate
  • 4-6 drops Red food colouring(I used Wilton gel colour)
  • Whipped cream

"Blood":

  • 3 tbsp Powdered sugar sifted
  • 1 tsp Water
  • 2-4 drops Red food colouring

Instructions

Hot chocolate:

  • In a medium size pot over medium-low heat, heat the milk then stir in the sugar. Once the sugar has dissolved add the white chocolate. Stir constantly until the chocolate has melted then add the vanilla.
  • Remove from the heat and add the food colouring, I used 4-6 drops to get that rich red colour. But the amount will depend on the type and brand of food colouring you are using. 

"Blood":

  • In a small mixing bowl, add the powdered sugar then stir in the water. The texture you should be after is a syrup like texture. Add the food colouring until you get a bright red colour.

Assembly:

  • Pour the hot chocolate into cups then top with whipped cream and finally the blood. Enjoy!
